BEWARE OF THE DATA WE FEED ON
(For the Local Newspaper)
Along with many, I have a deep concern regarding the growing
tension and resentments in our Country. The polarized divide between the
political, logistical, social, and moral views within our society is widening,
and with that suspicions and accusations are mounting. If we hit boiling point,
what will be the outcome?
The media always have intriguing articles and pictures regarding the
conflicts around the world. Years ago, as soon as I had opportunity, I would
grab a magazine to see what kind of dark deeds were transpiring, how the
battles were going, and what kind of diabolical plots the “evil adversaries”
were up to. Imagine that, those articles had all non-bias and accurate facts! REALLY? As time went on my anger grew increasingly bitter against
certain people. One evening I came to the realization that hate was being
nurtured in my heart, and as a Christian I knew I had crossed the line. Jesus commanded
us to love one another. I finally realized I was being led down the wrong path
and it was time to cut out the poisonous influences from my life. Jesus said we
are to be the salt and light of the world, to be peace makers, and to overcome
evil with good. True, there are bad things in the world, and we are not to live
peaceably with them, accept them, nor ignore them, but how we deal with them in
a Christ-like way is another matter. We know that we are out of step with the
Lord if we despise or hate people. The Bible teaches us that our battle is not
against flesh and blood, but against evil spirits. So how do we fight
them? We use the timeless tools of faith
and Love which are in Christ Jesus the Lord. Another super weapon we have next
to faith and love is prayer, and that too we should use at all times.
Friends, please be careful regarding who and
what you listen to, and where your thoughts and feelings and leading you, lest
we too become like the things that make us angry.
