12- Biblical Anger Management - Sudden...
SUDDEN AND UNPREDICTABLE OUTBURSTS OF ANGER
This is referring to anger that someone releases sometimes in
unprovoked and unpredictable situations, often with hurtful expressions to
others, and or themselves. The offender may be very sorry afterwards, but the
damage done may not be repairable. This expression of anger must be dealt with
immediately!
POSSIBLE CAUSES: stress, pent-up frustrations, hurts, suppressed
anger, physical problems, guilt, fears, undisciplined behavior, and any
combination. These are amplified by or even caused by alcohol and drugs, occult
practices and demonic activity, or bad relationships.
SUPPRESSIONS AND DENIAL, PROVERBS 26:24-26.
PRESSURES PSALM
106:32-33.
WOUNDS MATTHEW
5:21-24
TORMENTS 1 SAMUEL
16:14-16
The danger with these is
that they smolder and even grow. When the pressure hits maximum or triggered,
an eruption occurs!
SOME CONTRIBUTING FACTORS:
SUPRESSION – Trying to manage strong feelings i.e. hurts, anger,
by will power and even disciplines alone without confronting and resolving the
problem.
DENIAL- Trying to ignore or not acknowledge the existence or
seriousness of a wound or anger.
PRESSURES- Being under
and trying to manage more than you are able. Matthew 11:39-30
Pride, ignorance, and
fears are likely the supports behind these.
SHAME, GUILT, FEARS,
HURTS, and INSECURITIES may also be contributing factors.
TORMENTS= Demonically incited or produced struggles; paranoia,
hatred, revenge, bitterness, guilt, fears, depressions.
(IN CASES OF ABUSE , PLEASE
HELP THEM WALK THROUGH
LESSON # 4 HURTS)
ACTION STEP #1- Take it to the Lord immediately, and in
urgency and confess
your problem and ask
Him to help, teach, and guide you.
STOP! –CONSIDER-DO!!!
ACTION STEP #2 IDENTIFY/DETERMINE THE PROBLEM(S)
Ask yourself “Why did I/am I….?” “Did I have a
right to…?
On what Biblical grounds? Are
there contributing influences?
ie. alcohol… What are the real issues/problems?
Remember that you must examine these carefully. Accurate
diagnosis will determine a quicker and more thorough liberty. Often we feel
justified, but in certain types of anger it is a cover for pride, fed and
inspired by the presuppositions of others or your own. Whatever, these must be
exposed and repented of. God’s Word under the guidance of His Holy Spirit can
point these out to you, if your heart is open to correction and instruction,
and even the rebuke of an outside opinion.
NOTE- The Bible teaches that out of the abundance of the heart
the mouth speaks.
Sometimes if
it is hard to solve a problem, find a trusted, God-fearing
person who
you can talk it over with until you can perceive the root of
your problem/issues.
STEP #3 REPENT/TURN FROM-
your sinful behaviors and attitudes.
This
includes fits of anger, abusive speech,
Violent behavior…= sin.
DISARM
FORSAKE- the thinking and influences that feed the problem.
YOURSELF &
RENOUNCE-The assumed right to avenge, hold grudges, justify
ROOT OUT yourself,
pity or feel sorry for yourself, hate,
or be angry.
FORGIVE/CANCEL THE DEBTS- and pray for the offender(s).
STOP-CONSIDER-DECIDE- DO CAREFULLY AND THOROUGHLY-NOW!!!
REMEMBER- YOU ALONE ARE
RESPONSIBLE FOR YOUR ACTIONS AND ATTITUDES
STEP #4
HEALING AND REPAIRING-
B. -
Apologize - To those who you have hurt or
offended and offer or make right and restitution
If necessary
A - Receive your healing from
Jesus. He heals
The broken hearted and binds up their wounds.
Hurts, shame, and a broken heart can be so devastating and hard
to deal with, all the while perhaps over something we feel we cannot talk
about. Consequently they can fester and grow into something that cannot
contain. You may not even be at fault but you are bearing the brunt of the event,
as in abuse. Oh dear one, take it to the Lord Jesus. He loves you so much and
can fully heal and deliver you, help you walk through His most gracious
healing.
STEP #5
DIFUSE THE EXPLOSIVE ELEMENTS
This means that you will have to make some serious changes and
decisions. Changes God will help you with when you come to Him in faith, but
the decisions are up to you. To change we need to be humble, open, teachable,
courageous, ready to face ourselves in the light of godly correction, to change
our thinking, interests, ways. This means that this may touch our values and
affections, which may crowd or appear to crowd our assumed identity, especially
pride. Changes must always be made in the light of God’s Word as directed by His
Holy Spirit and the fruit will bear its own witness. The Scriptures teach us to
ask God for wisdom Who gives freely.
NOTE. – Often full changes are not required, but merely
adjustments. If changes are made where only adjustments are needed, the problems
may just take another form. Also some changes are more gradual and take time, a
process.
REMEMBER- GOING AFTER THE ROOT OF ANY PROBLEM IS
ABSOLUTELY IMPERATIVE IN ORDER TO SOLVE
WRONG BEHAVIOR, ESPECIALLY RE-OCCURRING
PROBLEMS BEFORE CHANGES CAN BE EXPECTED.
Decisions to make changes require careful examination,
consideration, understanding and godly wisdom. “The heart of the
discerning acquires knowledge; the ears of the wise seek it out.” Proverbs
18:15
Ask the Lord to teach you and to give you wisdom. Remember, “the
fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom.”
Confront your behavior patterns and be ready to challenge your
thinking, views, ways, and values.
DEAL WITH: SUPPRESSIONS- Confront your troubles in a Biblical
manner. Suppressing hurts,
angers, frustrations, fears, etc… is asking for an explosion. “Take heed
to yourselves. If your brother sins against you, rebuke him, and if he repent,
forgive him,” Luke 17:3 “…anger resides in the bosom of fools.” Ecc. 7:9
DENIAL- It won’t just
go away or be insignificant, especially in areas of hurts, failures,
weaknesses, fears, guilt,…. Admitting things honestly is not a weakness
especially when one has faith. 2Corinthians 12:7-10. “And you shall know
the truth, and the truth will set you free.” John8:32. We must be ever
willing to face things and ourselves in the light of God’s Word.
PRESSURES- Pride, presumption,
and ignorance are major factors – knowing when to quit, rest, persevere. Behind
this problem the danger is that it can break us before we break it. Pressures
accumulate sometimes gradually, and are often just part of life’s struggles.
Other times they may come from poor management and misunderstanding, or over
confidence. Jesus said, “Come unto Me all you that are heavy laden, and I will give you
rest. Take My yoke upon you, and learn of Me, for I Am meek and lowly of heart,
and you shall find rest for your souls. For My yoke is easy, and My burden is
light.” Matthew 11:28-30. “Cast all your cares upon Him, for He cares for you.”
1Peter 5:7.
