ARE REC DRUGS A SIN?
Part 1
‘Recreational”
Drugs’
“Let us hear the conclusion of the
whole matter: fear God, and keep His commandments, for this is the whole duty
of man. For God shall bring every work into judgment, with every secret thing,
whether it be good, or whether it be evil.” Ecclesiastes 12:13-14
Recreational DRUGS - (not referring to Medical Use)
Whatever activity we as humans engage
ourselves in, and endorse, must always be examined before God according to what
He has decreed.
What does God’s Word say about drugs? All
through the Old and New Testaments the topic of drunkenness is addressed, and the specific
topic of drugs is found in a number of passages in the New Testament and often within
the context of God’s wrath and judgment.
“Neither
repented they of their murders, nor of their sorceries, nor of their fornication, nor of their thefts.” “But the fearful, and unbelieving, and the abominable, and murders, and
whoremongers, and sorcerers,
and idolaters, and all liars, shall have their part in the lake which burns
with fire and brimstone, which is the second death.”
Revelation 9:21, 21:8
In these two passages of the Word of God, the
words SORCERIES, and SORCERERS, are translated from the original
text which was written in Greek using the word PHARMAKEIA, from where we have derived the word ‘Pharmacy’. The use
of this word can refer to medication, but in these two verses it is referring
specifically to potion, magician, sorcerer, sorcery, witchcraft.
First of all, the harm and damage these
addictions and behaviours can bring to the users are well documented, but
equally devastating are the harm and inflictions that are passed on to those
who are closely tied to these individuals, especially to their children and
spouse.
The second issue regarding drugs is that they are commonly used in
sorcery and witchcraft as a means of exposing the users to the influence of
spirits/devils. What this is implying is that many people who have been using
drugs for recreational purposes have been exposed to, and were, or are under the
influence of demonic forces, whose ultimate goals are to gain influence over people
with the corresponding objective “...to
steal, and to kill, and to destroy.”( John 10:10) all that is of God. Satan
uses the same tactics on us that he used in the garden, questioning and
doubting God in order to seduce us into disobedience/evil. “Has God said…?” Genesis 3:1
Finally, these are very evil and serious sins
before God. In these passages of the Scriptures He clearly lays out His intent
for those who will not repent of these sinful activities. He will directly
punish, first in the world before He returns (Revelation 9:21), and secondly by
the eternal damnation of the lake of fire (Revelation 21:8). In these two
passages He is not glossing over His intent in judgment. (Please consider ever
so carefully who and what you listen to!!)
If you are involved or have been victimized in
the use of drugs, the Lord is “An ever
Present Help in the time of need” and “Whosoever will call upon the name of the
Lord shall be saved.” He is there for you to help you, deliver you, and
heal you. It is for these reasons that The Lord Jesus Christ died on the cross
for our sins and rose again from the dead; to the full intent to forgive us,
cleanse us, heal us, and deliver us. Our duty is to break off from our heart any
agreement and affection in association with these behaviours, and He does the
glorious work of deliverance and healing. HE LOVES US SO MUCH – trust HIM!!!
CONCLUSION Using drugs for recreational purposes is a sin before God
and harmful on every level and you need to flee from them!!!
